5 Perks of Hiring a Freelance Designer

Oftentimes, small businesses believe that they need to go to agencies for design work. It’s simple to search for “web design agencies Cincinnati” and click on the first agency that pops up. Don’t get me wrong, agencies have a place in this world, but before you consider using an agency for your design, reach out to a few freelancers to expand your options.

Below, I’m going to outline a few perks of working with a freelancer and how it may help in terms of time, money, and overall satisfaction.

1. Cost

Cost is probably the number one reason in everyone’s mind to look into freelance work. Freelancers don’t work for free, but one of the perks of freelancing is very little overhead, which means lower cost for clients. Agencies tend to hire staff based on a large client base, which means you are automatically paying for more overhead.,

2. Flexibility

Freelancers create their own work hours, which especially lends itself to working with small business owners and startups. This flexibility not only allows for better customer service, but increases the chances that your project will get done faster.

So, when a fellow entrepreneur puts on her CEO cap, for the 2 hours a day she has time to, and emails me at 10 o'clock at night, there is a 60% chance that I’m probably going to email her back that night. And when a marketing director calls me at 12 in the afternoon, I’m not going to be out on my lunch break, I’ll be at the gym lifting weights or stuffing my face with pizza. And I’ll set down whichever item I am holding onto for dear life (take your choice, but we both know I hold on to the pizza a lot harder), and answer their call.

3. Freelancers know some cool people

Freelancers can often connect you with other people who have the expertise you need. This means hiring a freelancer can help you build up your own network and meet other entrepreneurs.

4. Freelancers tend to be both more innovative and adaptive

Entrepreneurial freelancers are some of the most adept people to hire because they continue to better themselves and stay up to date on new trends and technology. Because freelancers are exposed to a multitude of different needs, businesses, and/or projects, it allows them to create a knowledge base that will improve their skill set over time.

As an added bonus, this means that most freelancers are more willing to learn and implement new skills as needed to help complete your project, whereas an agency employee would most likely not have the time to do this on such a regular basis.

5. The person you see is the person you get

Probably the most amazing perk of working with a freelancer is the personal attention each client receives. Since we are required to find and keep our own clients, freelancers are motivated to sustain good, working relationships with every client, which translates into better and more personalized service. Whether you text, email, call, or send a carrier pigeon (eww please don't) you are contacting the freelancer directly.

These five perks are only scraping the tip of the iceberg when it comes to working with a freelance designer, blogger, marketer, etc. There are a multitude of other time and money-saving benefits that come with hiring a freelancer. If you’ve been on the edge of making a decision, I encourage you to reach out to a freelancer today and set up a meeting.
